What do prominent Hong Kong celebrities like Carina Lau and Stanley Kwan have in common? They all had dined at Uncle Fong Hotpot Restaurant, which will soon be coming to Singapore’s shores. The restaurant is most prominently known for its famous authentic Chongqing-style soup-bases, paired with premium ingredients.

Founded in Hong Kong, Uncle Fong Hotpot Restaurant has been nothing short of a booming success. It has been drawing massive crowds that include both locals and celebrities alike.

The mastermind behind this restaurant would be Mr Fong Chi Chung, who first made a name for himself with Michelin-starred restaurant Putien. Seeking inspiration from the countless hot pot restaurants he visited in Chongqing, he decided to open his very own hotpot restaurant.

The restaurant will kick off local operations on 26 April 2022 at Great World. This would mark the hotpot chain’s 11th outpost and Singapore’s first.

The restaurant’s interior is cosy and homely, with contemporary wooden tables and chairs lining the place, along with subtle backlights lining the ceiling. Furthermore, the restaurant can seat up to 80 diners, ranging from small groups of two to four, to private rooms that seat up to eight persons.

Arguably, the secret to their success lies in their soup bases, all of which are brewed and simmered from quality spices and condiments.

Its Signature Soup Base is made from five carefully selected main ingredients: Chongqing shizhuhong chilli, si chuan hanyuan pepper, Yunnan yellow ginger, beef tallow and si chuan pixian bean paste.

Not only that, they also offer non-spicy soup bases such as Pork Bone Broth, Tomato Broth, Fungus and Mushroom Broth and Coriander and Preserved Egg Broth. You can also try their Fruit and Vegetable Soup, specially curated for Singapore’s tropical climate.

Here, you can only expect freshly selected ingredients. This includes their meats, vegetables, seafood and produce. Additionally, Uncle Fong Hotpot Restaurant offers exclusive ingredients that you may not come across in other restaurants. For example, they have novelty ingredients like Hand-beaten Prawn Paste, Putien Soft Tofu and Dried Gong Choi. If you are feeling more adventurous, you can opt for Coral Mussels (intestines of red sea cucumber) and Sliced Celtuce.

As of now, menu prices have yet to be revealed, but we do hope it won’t burn a hole in our pockets!
